Glendale Community College students may enter the Artists of Promise Competition to display their 2D or 3D visual artwork by Feb. 25, 2022.
Students who’ve taken any 2D or 3D visual art classes at any of the Maricopa Community Colleges, are eligible to enter the Promise of Artists Competition. The competition is also free to enter. Students can only submit the art they have made in class. The work must be from the past year, which includes anything from the Spring 2021 semester to the Spring 2022 semester. Students must submit their work by taking pictures and completing an online form. Up to four pieces of work can be submitted. The deadline to submit any work is Feb. 25, 2022. Judging will start in March. The first place winner’s art will be displayed at The Artist’s Promise Gala, which will be held virtually this April. The top five students will be entered to the League of Innovation National Arts Competition, where their art will be judged on a national level. They will also be awarded $225 each through mail. Entry to join the competition began on Dec. 5, 2021.

The Artists of Promise Competition has been held at the Maricopa Community College District every spring since 2004. Their website states that “the Maricopa Community Colleges sponsor a districtwide competition to encourage and recognize student achievement” This year will be the 18th time it’s taken place.
In 2019, the event took place at the Orpheum Theatre. However, in 2020, the gala was canceled due to covid. Despite that, winners were still chosen. Now the event is taking place virtually.
This looks extremely exciting! What a wonderful opportunity for students to put their art out there and get feedback from their peers. It also seems like a terrific start to get your art seen by potential employers. It is a fantastic way to express yourself and be seen as the artist you are and gain confidence in your skill.
How inspiring that they have hosted this competition 18 times. I can’t imagine how many people have gained confidence and caught a lucky break by having their art displayed.
I think its awesome that there is a competition like this for the Maricopa Community Colleges network! Showcasing your art is one of the most nerve-racking things for an artist, especially for those starting out, so it’s fun to see that there’s opportunities for students to do just this! Even if you don’t go in it to win it, there is reward in receiving feedback on your work and putting yourself out there, as that is a major element of being within the creative fields. I also love how it is not just limited to those in visual arts, how all students within artistic fields are encourage to show off what they have learned and their skills as an individual. The term artist can be applied to so many of these programs, and a place where everyone can come together to learn and present themselves I think is something that is great to see in the collection of community colleges! It’s important to highlight all the arts, and whether you’re a new student out of high school, returning after a break, or have sent your own kids off to college, everyone has something to offer! The more we can share and collaborate the more we can create, and I didn’t even know this was happening, so thank you for posting about this!
This article is very detailed and does a great job of fully describing the art competition. Any event that gives students a chance to showcase their work should be talked about. Since this event is hosted by Maricopa Community Colleges this article is very relevant to students who read this blog. It’s important for students to support other students. A strong school community will improve academic life. I liked how you included the link to enter the competition. A student could read this article and want to enter but not know how. I have always been extremely interested in art so this article excited me. This art competition is not a common event. It is important to share events like this so students who want to go will not miss their chance. Limited time events should not be taken for granted. Some artists make great work but lack confidence. A competition like this can be a great confidence booster to an up and coming artist. People who read this article may share it with a friend who they want to enter the competition. This could also raise someone’s confidence if they know their friends support them. Overall, your article is very interesting and detailed. Great job.
